About SR Signs :
While Ray's signs range from oil-tank lettering to police cars, fire trucks, and custom signs, most of his work is boat lettering--a part that he really enjoys the most. “Boat lettering keeps me near the water and allows me to work with boat customers that are relaxed and fun people to work with,” Ray says.
Ray is highly respected throughout League City, which explains why most of his customers are referred to him by word-of-mouth from the community and the marine industry he works with.
Through 35 years of experience, Ray has seen the sign painting business evolve from hand-lettering to computer generated lettering. While Ray feels computers help him work more efficiently, he strongly believes that good design depends on genuine artistic skill. Ray is able to combine his hand-lettering and design skills with today’s technology to create unique lettering and signs.
About Ray Skaines : Owner and Operator of SR Signs
Living in California as a teenager during the mid 60's, Ray built and sold model race cars with detailed lettering. Del Quinn, a driver at Vallejo Speedway, was so taken with his models, he asked Ray to build 24 models of his own race car. Ray was eventually offered the opportunity to letter Quinn's actual newly-built race car. "Lettering Del's race car opened the door for more sign work. I credit Del with jump-starting my career as a sign painter," Ray says. Thirty-three years later, Del Quinn was still racing, and once again, Ray lettered Quinn's race car as a token of his appreciation. Unfortunately, Del passed away in 2001. http://www.vallejospeedwayhardtops.homestead.com/Quinn.html
Ray made his way to Texas and opened Signs by Ray in League City in April, 1972.
Ray is married to his high school sweetheart, Connie, whom he gives credit for his success. They have a daughter, Jennifer, who is happily married to David Martin - they have three sons, Cullen, Brady, and Slayden. Ray and Connie also have a son, Jonathan, who is a Senior Creative Art director in Dallas.
When time allows, Ray enjoys driving his ‘58 Karmann Ghia convertible. He treasures his time with family and friends, and loves the Lord Jesus Christ. "The Lord has blessed me abundantly and has given me a wonderful family," Ray said. "All credit is given to him".
